What is LPG?

LPG stands for Liquefied Petroleum Gas. The composition of LPG is Hydrogen and carbon, also known as Hydrocarbons. Specifically, LPG consists of a combination of Propane (C3H8), or extracted from streams of natural gas from Oil and Gas fields. Propane and Butane are both gases in ambient conditions but can be liquefied under modest pressure and temperature conditions. Furthermore, LPG can safely and easily be stored at room temperature.

When buying LPG Cylinder

  • Please don’t purchase an un-certified counterfeit cylinder, always buy an OGRA-certified company cylinder. Always make sure that you are buying from an authorized franchisee.
  • Do not forget to check the company seal and safety cap on the cylinder at the time of delivery.
  • Do not accept the cylinder if the seal is broken.
  • Please look for the due date of testing, which is written outside of the cylinder stay plate.
  • Do not accept the cylinder if the due date is over.
  • Check for gas leaks by applying soap solution on cylinder joints and Safety pipes at the time of putting the new cylinder into use.
  • Do not use an open flame to detect cylinder leaks.

Do’s

  • Always keep the cylinder in an upright position with a valve on top always place the cylinder at ground level and keep the LPG appliance at a higher level from the cylinder.
  • Retain the safety cap with nylon thread attached to the cylinder. Fix the cap on the valve when the cylinder is not in use or to stop leaks, if any.
  • Ensure that there is adequate ventilation at floor level and at the top level
  • Keep the area clean. Restrict entry to authorized persons only
  • Shout and raise alarm/siren in case of unsafe conditions.
  • In case of leakage, stop all operations, and close all isolation valves.
  • In case of valve leakage from the cylinder, put the safety cap and take the cylinder to an open space.
  • Use D.C.P-type fire extinguishers in case of fire and/or call the Fire Brigade.

Don’ts

  • Don’t keep the cylinder exposed to sun, rain, dust, and heat.
  • Don’t heat the cylinder directly or indirectly.
  • Don’t forget to check the cylinder for any leakage from the rubber ‘0’ ring and valve before connecting to the regulator.
  • Don’t forget to turn off the valve when the cylinder is not in use.
  • Don’t keep any extra material in the LPG shed.
  • Don’t allow battery-operated instruments inside the LPG shed.
  • No smoking inside & around the LPG shed or area.
  • No naked flame anywhere inside & around the LPG shed or area
